About
Maiken Bent (b. 1980) creates sculptures that are both poetic, complex, and provocatively raw, and invite our gaze and imagination to travel back and forth from hard to soft and from figure to abstraction, and in her practice there exists a deeply detailed investigation of aesthetics and materials. She finds aesthetic value and animism in combining highly unusual materials; carabines, fixtures, colorful skin-pieces, steel and sailing equipment. She turns aesthetic and societal ideals on their head and questions our relationship with objects, what is determined as objectively beautiful and in turn she looks for the missed aesthetic potential and new relations with and of the world.

Maiken Bent is MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, 2006. She has exhibited nationally at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, ARoS, KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art, Gl. Holtegaard, and Den Frie Udstillingsbygning. Internationally she has exhibited at Kunsthal Oslo, Yves Klein Archives, Paris, and KW Institute of Contemporary Art, Berlin. Her works are part of collections at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, ARoS, KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art, Sorø Kunstmuseum, SKMU Sørlandet Art Museum, Heart - Herning Museum of Contemporary Art and The Danish Arts Foundation.
